


The
disease of Leishmania has got controlled as numbers of affected vaccinated and
have reached to 732 in all three tehsils of Mohmand Agency, Political Agent
Muhammad Wasif Saeed told local journalists here at agency headquarters
Ghalanai on Wednesday.
The most affected areas the tehsil Safi were including Lakaro, Qandahari, Mamad Gat, Alingar, tehsil Prang Ghar and some areas of Haleemzai.

said that 18 patients at Agency headquarters Ghalanai hospital, 197 at BHU
Lakaro,24 at RHC Ekkaghund,306 Prang Ghar BHU,141 at BHU Mamad Gat were treated

Surgeon Dr.Alamgier Khan told that Leishmania caused biting of a kind of
mosquito namely, Sand fly present in hilly area and usually breed in fresh
water.
“ Sand fly that had been transported from Europe to Pakistan stung on exposed portion of human body in morning and evening times and could fly up to height of four to five feet and that was the reason that children were the more affectees of it” said khan.

Dr.
Alamgier Khan told that the local administration received complaints through
social media regarding Lieishmaniasis in the tribal region which WHO &
Directorate of health services FATA were provided 250(5cc) injections.
He
said that a special emergency treatment campaign was conducted from April, 14
to 16, 2018 to administer first dose to the infected individuals which mainly
continue minor children and toddles.
Similarly,the
second campaign to administer second dosage has been launched in Agency
headquarters hospital Ghalanai, BHU Lakaro, RHC Ekkaghund, BHU Nawai Kalli, BHU
Qandhari and BHU Mammad Gat from 22nd
April and so far total of 687 patients have been registered and treated in the
second phase.

Surgeon Dr. Alamgier Khan said that depending on the scale of the cutaneous
ulcers and visceral infection if any infected individual requires 3 to 8 doses of
1 CC injections over a prescribed duration.
“Therefore
Agency health department requested Directorate of Health FATA Secretariat to
arrange a batch of 1000 injections for arranging subsequent dosage requirements
for the under treatment patients” he added.
One
of the officials of the local administration told that due to the scale of the
epidemic and in order to ensure a sustainable treatment of the registered
patients and upon confirmation on telephonic conversation from Secretary Health
KP Mr. Abid Majeed that health department KP had a readily available stock of
2000 injections.
Political
agent Mohmand Agency Muhmmad Wasif Saeed told that the impact of Lashmaniasis
vaccination campaign in Mohmand agency has paved way for similar campaigns in
adjacent Khyber and Bajaur tribal agencies.
“Owing to the fact the drug for this vector is
not available in the open market and only WHO has the authorization to provide
the required injections for treatment in the tribal region” said Saeed.
