Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. General Nazir Ahmad Butt has said that it is matter of pride for him as a Pakistani to witness that construction work on Ghalanai Mamad Ghat Highway is in full swing under the control of Frontier works Organization (FWO) , Crops Commander visited Mohmand District today to inspect the progress of work on the Main Ghalanai to Mamad Ghat highway here on Friday.

was also present on the occasion.
It
will be mentioned here that the Highway which is 43 KM long also includes an
800 meter State of the art tunnel at Nahakki is part of a greater alignment of
the Peshawar Bajaur highway.
Nahakki
Tunnel was inaugurated in September 2017 by the Chief of Army Staff. The
project is being executed by FWO and is in its final stages of completion with
work going on at a rapid pace on bridge works, final layer of asphalt along
with signage and protection works.
Talking
on the occasion Director General FWO Major General Inam Haider Malik said that
the construction of the road picked up pace since July when Construction works
were started in night shift as well along with additional deployment of men and
machinery by the FWO.
“This
resulted in carpeting of first layer of asphalt due to which the ride quality
has improved manifold on the remaining 25 km stretch upwards of Nahakki tunnel
toward Mamad Ghat” said Haider.
He said that it resulting in an increased the
traffic inflow from Bajaur, Upper Dir and Lower Dir by almost two to three
times since May, 2018.
As
per District Administration the traffic count Data for the month of May for all
vehicles commuting from Bajaur through Mohmand was around 1600 per day which
has increased to between 4000 to 5000 per day.
The
improved infrastructure has helped induce economic growth by enhanced trade
activities.
