GHALANAI, Nov 2: An anti-dengue awareness campaign was launched in the Aqrab Daag area of tehsil Pindiali of Mohmand Agency on Wednesday on directives from PRC FATA Peshawar office with security support of the local administration.

All the volunteers of the PRC departments of the red crescent society Mohmand and local’s tribesmen arranged walks to raise awareness and prevent the spread of the dengue virus.
Red Crescent representatives, heads of educational institutions, elected local government representatives and students participated in an awareness, supported by the Pakistan Red Crescent Mohmand agency.



Speaking on the occasion Director Health & Training Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin Pakistan Red Crescent Islamabad who is on the visit to Mohmand to examine the free medical camps, emphasized the need for jointly-collaborated efforts to raise awareness about preventive measures against the dengue virus.

He said the Anti-Dengue awareness struggle should be more strengthen, and all the segments of society have been engaged in activities to raise awareness about dengue fever. He said the PRC is vigilant, and all the possible measures will be taken to check dengue larvae and mosquito breeding spots.

PRC FATA Secretary Saeed Kamal admitted the efforts of the PRC and the health department in organizing various activities to highlight dengue fever.

He said that the department has devised various programmes to address the prevalence of dengue.

PRC Disaster Management Officer Irfan Khan told participants that dengue larvae have been found in houses where water mains are choked, in water tanks, used and old tyres, water-filled and uncovered utensils and accumulated rainwater.

However, he added that the PRC management is utilizing all its resources to eradicate the disease, including clearing away standing water, mullahs, carrying out spraying indoors and outdoors, conducting daily door-to-door surveillance and improving the drainage system.

Meanwhile, Free Medical Camp held in the same area where Doctor Younis Khan informed that in the camp around 385 patients including male 80, children 161, female 144 were examined and given free medicines.
 He said that a team of highly qualified doctors and trained medical staff including male and lady doctors have conducted Red Crescent Medical Camps in the region.

 RFL, CBRE and hygiene awareness sessions were also organized. Two ambulances of Red Crescent and a number of volunteers took part in the camp. Free medicines were also provided to the patients.

 He said many patients were suffering from skin, eye infections, dehydration and gastroenteritis. Due to starting of winter season, people also complained about eye problems.
 Many patients also complained about tooth pain. The main cause of all these diseases and infections was malnutrition and poor hygiene. Doctors referred 80 patients to others health facilities.

On the occasion in the medical camp another Doctor Younis Khan asked the patients to adopt preventive measures to protect themselves from plethora of diseases.
Dr. Younis said, prevention was the better option as it cost nothing. Speaking at the concluding day of the medical camp, he said that those camps were meant to provide free treatment to people besides raising their awareness level about prevention of diseases.
